Sampling a Lot: How Buyers Judge Your Grain

Buyers test a small sample and judge the whole lot, so how it is taken matters.

Take a representative sample

What is tested

Moisture, foreign matter, broken or damaged kernels, colour, size, insects and, for some crops, oil content or toxin levels.

Good practice

Take your own sample first and test it. Keep a sealed duplicate sample, labelled with lot, date and bag count, in case of disagreement. Record the results on the lot sheet.

Being able to say what your grain tests at builds trust and speeds sales.
