A Simple Tractor Maintenance Schedule

Most tractor failures at planting or harvest come from skipped basics.

Daily (before work)

Check engine oil, coolant, hydraulic oil and fuel; look at tyres, belts and hoses; grease the points marked in the manual; check lights and brakes; clean the radiator screen.

Regular intervals

Follow the manual's hours for engine oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter (clean often in dust), hydraulic oil and transmission oil. Keep a log of hours and dates.

Seasonal

Before the season, service fully, replace worn parts and check the battery and tyre pressure. After the season, clean, lubricate and store under cover.

Good habits

Use the right oil and clean fuel, warm the engine before heavy work, and fix small leaks early. Hire a mechanic for major checks.
