Storing fertilizer and avoiding caking

Fertilizer is an investment sitting in a bag. Moisture, heat and poor stacking can ruin it.

Why fertilizer cakes

Urea, DAP and many NPK grades attract water from humid air. Once granules bond together, they become hard blocks that spread unevenly and lose value.

Good storage habits

Keep products separate

Store urea and nitrate-based fertilizers apart from elemental sulphur and organic materials, and keep them away from flames and heat.

Inspect

Check stock regularly. Lumps can be broken before use, but badly caked product should be used on a trial area first.

We can advise on storing and delivering fertilizer so it arrives in good condition.
