Bag size and stacking affect handling cost, grain damage and safety.
Choosing size
Common jute bags hold roughly 25 to 100 kg, depending on crop and market. Smaller bags are easier to handle and sell; larger bags cost less per kilogram but need more labour or equipment. Match size to buyer requirements and how you move stock.
Filling
Fill to the planned weight and sew or tie neatly; overfilled bags burst, underfilled ones slump and make unstable stacks.
Stacking
- Build on pallets or dunnage in an interlocking (cross-tie) pattern.
- Keep stack height within a safe limit for your bag strength and store floor; add set-backs in taller stacks.
- Leave aisles and keep stacks away from walls and roof trusses.
- Never climb loose stacks; use ladders or machines.
Check bags on the bottom layers regularly for compression and damp.
