The label tells you how much product per hectare; calibration tells you how much your sprayer actually delivers.
Steps (knapsack or boom)
1. Fill with clean water and check nozzles for even spray pattern; replace worn or blocked ones.
2. Measure the output: spray for a set time (say one minute) into a container and measure; or spray a known area and see the volume used.
3. Calculate volume per hectare from output, nozzle width and walking or driving speed.
4. Work out the product per tank: dose per hectare ÷ volume per hectare × tank volume.
5. Check often: nozzle wear changes output within a season.
Good practice
Keep speed and pressure steady, use the correct nozzle for the product (flat-fan for herbicides, hollow-cone for fungicides), and spray in calm conditions.
Wrong dose either fails to control the problem or wastes money and harms the crop.
